Abstract: Competitiveness is a certain kind of indicator of the economy that covers a much more complex notion than for example the economic growth. While the latter can be quite easily expressed by the GDP index, we can only determine competitiveness as a multidimensional index-number. The two notions differ in this respect and yet they are still inseparable from each other. You cannot achieve a spectacular economic growth without competitiveness. In order to prove and demonstrate this I invoke the researches, studies and reports of several domestic and international organizations. The study wishes to give an overview picture about the competitiveness of the economy and firms and the changes in the global economic trends.
Keywords: competitiveness, innovation, business environment
