Streszczenie: The effect of the time of seed sowing and herb harvesting on the yield and raw material quality of three populations of greater plantain (Plantago major L.) was assessed. Higher yield of air-dry herb was obtained from the plots where the seeds were sown in spring than from the plots where the seeds were sown in late spring. In all populations herb weight increased with delayed harvest time. The content of iridoid glycosides in dry herb ranged from 1395.0 to 2060.0 mg/100g. The highest content of iridoid glycosides was characteristic for the herb harvested at the stage of seed maturity. Content of polyphenolic acids ranged from 323.3 to544.5 mg/100g, flavonoids from 350.0 to 540.0 mg/100g, tannins from 3.30 to 6.41%, and mucilages from 682.0 to 1151.0 mg/100g.
