Streszczenie: Spercheios River is located in Central Greece where a number of important habitats for rare and endangered species exist. Thus, it is part of a Specially Protected Area designated by the implementation of European Directive 79/409/EEC. The aim of this paper is to update the habitat map in this area with the aid of field survey and LANDSAT 8 image which was acquired in 2013 with 15 m pixel size and to detect changes in aforementioned habitats with the existing map of 2000. In the proposed methodology, data which were collected from the field helped us for the photointerpreation of habitats and delineation of them. Particularly, advanced features from LANDSAT 8 were extracted in order to enhance spectral separability of habitats. Afterwards, a geographic overlay analysis was held using existing and updating habitat map in order to detect changes in the landscape. Finally, we investigate landscape structure using five landscape indices. The results showed the increase of agricultural areas and decrease of riparian forests.
