COMPARATIVE PARASITOLOGICAL STUDY OF CERTAIN FISHES IN THE UPSTREAM AND DOWNSTREAM OF THE HYDROPOWER PLANTS ON THE DNIESTER AND PRUT RIVERS (REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA)

Streszczenie: The study realized on two rivers of Moldova – Dniester and Prut, - had the scope to determine the impact of hydropower dams, constructed in the plain parts of the basins, and rivers regulation to the parameters of fish infestation with parasites including those having a potential impact on the health of humans and other mammals and birds. It is determined that both varieties of species of parasites and the intensity of infestation are about twice higher in the regulated sectors of the rivers compared with free downstream parts. Fishes from reservoirs are more infected with parasites that can cause helminthiases in warm-blooded animals and humans. This parasitologic factor should be taken into account during the evaluation of losses of ecosystem services resulting from the hydropower on rivers.
