Streszczenie: This paper delves into the spirit of the 20th century as seen through the lens of the most renowned English and American poets, W. H. Auden, Philip Larkin, Robert Lowell, and Allen Ginsberg. It delves into the poetics of the unspoken; the poetry that tackles the human psyche and the concerns of a generation that no other poet would so explicitly talk about. The aim is to shed light on the human crisis from different perspectives: empathy, religion, the self, and America. What all writers have in common, however, is their faith and hope for a better future in which these pillars will be revalued. The upshot from all the poets at hand is that the human crisis will be surpassed only if we are gentle and kind to others, empathize with their pain, restore our faith, be true to ourselves and think outside the wallet of the capitalist society.
