Streszczenie: This qualitative research aims to investigate and compare the emotional capacity and operational activity of first-year students at Riga and Liepaja Maritime School. Our objective is to evaluate and compare the personalities of these students as a positive factor in their long-term health. This research’s theoretical and methodological basis includes D. Fiske’s and S. Maddi’s theoretical investigations on activation, E. Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development, and A. Vorobjov’s ontogenetic periodization model for forming personality’s selective activity. We employed the following methods: monitoring, surveys, unstructured interviews, and qualitative analysis. The study results suggest that the respondents in the experimental group display optimism, determination, and psycho-emotional maturity appropriate for their age. Additionally, they show motivation to pursue a career as a sailor. What makes this research novel and important is that it has not been done in Latvia before. The research finding provide valuable insights into the emotional capacity and operational activity of first-year students at Riga and Liepaja Maritime School, shedding light on their personalities and potential impact on longterm health outcomes.
