Streszczenie: Medical eponyms have been an integral part of medical terminology, especially in clinical language across diverse medical specialties. However, their continued use in the medical field has sparked debate surrounding clarity, cultural relevance, and international consistency. This paper investigates the role and representation of eponyms in medical discourse, with a particular focus on Romanian clinical and public health contexts. This study explores the historical, mythological, and linguistic origins, analyzing their grammatical forms and classification patterns, as well as trends in their usage and decline within various medical disciplines. Particular attention is also given to their descriptive equivalents, as well as to their translation and adaptation within the Romanian medical context. By reviewing both international and national literature, along with Romanian medical websites, notably Regina Maria and MedLife, the study reveals that eponyms remain prevalent in professional and clinical settings despite a growing trend toward descriptive terminology.
