Streszczenie: The corrosion resistance and protective ability of gray-black conversion coatings on zinc and Zn-Co(1 wt.%) in a neutral corrosion medium of 3% NaCl are investigated and characterized by using of selected test methods like polarization resistance (Rp) measurements, SEM studies as well as microprobe, XRD and XPS analyses. The main aim is to estimate the electrochemical properties, protective characteristics and surface peculiarities of the newly obtained films in corrosion aspect. It is well known that Cr6+ -based conversion films demonstrate excellent protective ability causing long life utilization of the treated details. However, due to some ecological requirements the modern conversion layers are elaborated from Cr3+ -salts, molibdates etc. The results obtained revealed higher corrosion resistance and better protective ability, consequently better performance of the chromated electrodeposits compared to the non-treated ones. The mechanism of the protective action is also briefly discussed. Similar investigations have been carried out with nanocomposite coatings that will be reported later.
