Rezumat: During the storage of woodchips for heat and energy production wood components are metabolized by fungi causing material losses of up to 5% monthly. Besides the negative economic impact a high risk of auto-ignition of woodchip piles is present. The project “Biomass conditioning” focuses on the determination of the degradation process aiming to theoretically characterize a woodchip pile. To generate a better understanding, quantify the dry matter loss and to minimize the economic damage and the risk of an auto-ignition different test set-ups and practical experiments were established.
