Rezumat: The aim of our study was to optimize the formulation of the powder content of a bone cement based on an acrylic hydrogel, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), in order to obtain satisfactory rheological properties. A bone cement containing HEMA as a liquid phase (40% wt) and a blend of corn starch, cellulose acetate and a ceramic filler (alumina) in variable proportions as a solid phase (60% wt) was investigated by means of a mixture design. Each cement formulation was characterized using the complex shear modulus G* related to the rheological behaviour. The mixture design strategy was applied and three application-targeted formulations resembling three commercial cements rheology were determined.
