TESTING AND EVALUATION OF THE RESISTANCE TO PUNCTURE AND THE PROTECTIVE PROPERTIES OF FLEXIBLE BALLISTIC PANELS OF BULLETPROOF VESTS

Rezumat: This report presents the results obtained in a study aimed at assessing the protective properties and suitability for use of flexible ballistic panels of bulletproof vests with a reduced weight of the panel, in terms of their resistance to puncture. The focus is on some of the most commonly used by the police bulletproof vests - those with a level of ballistic protection IIIA, according to the NIJ (standards of the US National Institute of Justice). The test samples of flexible ballistic panels were previously tested for ballistic resistance and covered Level IIIA requirements of NIJ 0101.04, NIJ 0101.06 (Ballistic Resistance of Personal Body Armor) standards, and with a 7.62x25 FMJ RN cartridge (GOST P 50744-95 - Armor vestment). The test has been specifically designed for a test bench and test methodology that complies with the requirements of two of the leading standardization documents in this area: NIJ 0115.00 - Stab Resistance of Personal Body Armor (standards of the US National Institute of Justice) and HOSDB 2007, Part 3. Knife and Spike Resistance (UK Police Standard). Analysis and evaluation of the obtained results are presented.
