Rezumat: To predict metal fracture during cold plastic deformation, it is necessary to use a criterion that relates the degree of plasticity resource utilization to the change in the stress strain state in the region where fracture is most likely to occur. This paper considers the dependence of metal plasticity on the parameter characterizing the stress state and presents a graphical method based on the damage summation hypothesis and the assumption of linear damage accumulation. The loading program is replaced by an equivalent sequence of deformation stages at constant values of the stress state parameter, which makes it possible to determine the degree of plasticity utilization and the fracture strain. The proposed method is illustrated for bolt head upsetting. It is shown that the dependence should be determined in the zone of most probable fracture, which for upsetting and heading corresponds to the free surface element in the equatorial section of the barrel shaped part of the workpiece.
