Abstract: Pt@Fe₂O₃ nanoparticles were prepared by means of iron pentacarbonyl Fe(CO)₅ and chloroplatinic acid H₂PtCl₆·6H₂O thermal decomposition in a polymer–oil solution–melt. A composite material prepared by thermal decomposition of chloroplatinic acid with further addition of the nanoparticles to a low density polyethylene solution melt in hydrocarbon oil contains core–shell Pt@Fe₂O₃ nanoparticles with the average diameter of 1.2 nm and narrow unimodal size distribution. All the samples studied exhibit antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative strains.
Keywords: nanoparticles, low density polyethylene, biocidal properties
