Abstract: The article presents an approach on how to facilitate the engineering of data acquisition systems for SMEs. A semi-formal language is introduced, which is used by the management and maintenance staff of industrial companies in order to describe the data processing and routing from automation systems to planning systems. Thus information requirements are defined without ambiguities. The approach enables a parallel configuration of planning and automation systems, which leads to shorter introduction times for the data acquisition systems. The language is a result of a research project and publicly available.
