Abstract: The purpose of this research is to classify the inter-organizational relationships in open innovation between pharmaceutical companies and to clarify quantitatively the relationship between each type and research efficiency. In terms of research methodology, a patent database of drug development was analysed using the technique of social network analysis. The study concludes that a significant difference in the research efficiency of the various types of inter-organizational relationships can be verified.
