Abstract: The author of the article deals with the personality of an important Slovak pedagogue and a figure of the Slovak national movement in the second half of the 19th century, Samuel Ormis and his concept of moral education. During his pedagogical work, he significantly contributed to the development of girls’ education and to a significant extent also contributed to the publication of books and textbooks for the needs of Slovak education in the given period. He significantly contributed to the establishment of self-help associations and cash registers among the Slovak population of Hungary and at the same time showed intense interest in the field of natural sciences. The author focused on the analysis of Ormis’ most important pedagogical work Education for Seminarists and Parents, in which he dealt with many issues of pedagogy and education. His work has been evaluated by many other authors.
