Abstract: The effect of mechanical activation of rice husk on its enzymatic hydrolysis is studied. It has been established that the use of attrition mills is more effective for mechanical activation of rice husk. During mechanical treatment, the following processes occur: an increase in the specific area, destruction of the silica shell enclosing lingocellulose, and significant amorphization of crystalline cellulose. These effects cause an enhancement in the conversion of polymer carbohydrates into soluble saccharides by a factor of 7 and an increase in the yield of soluble monomeric forms of silica by a factor of 4. Thus, mechanical activation of rice husk followed by its enzymatic hydrolysis allows carbohydrate and silicon-containing products, which can be used for further microbiological processing, to be obtained.
