Abstract: One of the most important challenges today is to sustain energy supply and demand balance. Therefore, it is needed to improve the energy efficiency of the heating, cooling and lighting systems in buildings, which are some of the most energy demanding sectors. In this regard, automation systems used in the buildings are worth investigating because they provide comfort and are easy to use apart from their advantageous in energy saving. Heating-cooling, lighting and security systems for five types of building are investigated in this study. The building types considered are: mall, hotel, operating room, convention center and villa. The amount of prospective energy saving rate, cost and amortization time due to the usage of these systems were specified. The results show that the usage of these systems provides significant energy saving rates. The results also show that amortization times are relatively short.
