Abstract: In recent years broadband access services have growth worldwide and the bandwidth demand per subscriber for video and data services over HFC networks is increasing very rapidly. Current cable plants will not be able to support the downstream bandwidth needs over 5 years. Furthermore, the upstream bandwidth need in the future far exceeds today’s capacity. This paper presents several key incremental steps to increase the bandwidth in HFC: node splits, cable bandwidth expansion, introduction of DOCSIS3.0 and fiber-based access solution.
Keywords: hybrid fiber-coax network, digital television, node splits, docsis3.0
