Biography
Prof. Ing. Vladimír Báleš, DrSc. (born April 22, 1949, Prestavlky, Slovakia) is a Slovak professor of biochemical and bioreactor engineering at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. After graduating in 1972 and a research stay in Toulouse (1973–1974), he shifted from adsorption research to biochemical engineering, building a respected research group in modeling bioreactors with immobilized biocatalysts. He earned the DrSc. in 1994 and became full professor in 1997.
He held major leadership roles, including Head of Department (1989–2001), Dean (from 2000), Rector of STU (2003–2011), and President of the Slovak Rectors’ Conference (2006–2010), plus advisory roles in Slovakia and in Brussels. He has received many national and international awards and remains active in teaching.
