Streszczenie: Suitability of Jatropha curcas and Pongamia Pinnata oils as a stock for biodiesel production in Pakistan was investigated. Biodiesels were tested in direct injection diesel engine and results were compared with those of regular diesel fuel. Result analysis was supported by an investigation of fuel injection and combustion characteristics. Engine fuelled with neat Jatropha biodiesel showed increased fuel consumption, decreased brake efficiency, increased nitrogen oxides emission and reduced unburned hydrocarbon emissions and exhaust opacity. Test results of Pongamia biodiesel showed the same trends with slight variation in values. Based on test results conclusion was made that both oils can be used for commercial production of biodiesel in Pakistan.
