EXAMINING THE POWER-SHARING LEVEL IN A HIGHER EDUCATION CLASSROOM

Abstract: Learner-centered education gives importance to student motivation, exploration and productivity. Moreover, in learner-centered teaching, students are given more control and power is shared with students. This study aims to determine the power sharing level in higher education classes according to students’ opinions. In this study, survey method, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. The study was conducted to the population, 454 students at Foreign Languages School in Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Turkey in 2014-2015 academic years. The data was collected with “Power-sharing Scale” developed by Oruç (2014). SPSS Statistics was used for the statistical analysis of the data. It is found out that in the preparation classrooms power is shared on average level. It is thought that giving more responsibility to students in learning environment will make a great contribution to students’ educational process.
