Biography
Aleksander Aristovnik is Professor of Economics and Management in Administration at the Faculty of Public Administration and Professor of Economics at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana. He has expanded his academic expertise through visiting appointments and research stays at institutions including Princeton University, the University of Nevada (Reno), the University of Dubai, Ghent University, and the University of Zagreb.
His research focuses on public sector economics and management, as well as higher education and research and development policy. He has presented widely at international conferences and published in leading SSCI indexed journals, with more than 810 citations in Web of Science and Scopus and an h index of 17. He serves on editorial boards of several international journals and regularly contributes to programme committees for major conferences.
Prof. Aristovnik has led or participated in more than 25 domestic and international projects and acts as an external reviewer for multiple research agencies and networks, including the Slovenian Research Agency. Since 2015 he has led an SRA funded programme research group at the Faculty of Public Administration and has received repeated Research Excellence awards from the faculty.
Alongside research and teaching, he has held several leadership and governance roles, including membership in the Faculty Senate, oversight of accreditation processes, chairing student award committees, leading the Master’s Programme in Administration, and serving as Chair of the International EMPA Association. In 2020, he received the University of Ljubljana Golden Plaque for exceptional contributions to scholarship and the university’s reputation. He also serves as an expert for the Court of Auditors in public sector economics and participates in national and international professional bodies and associations.
