Streszczenie: This study investigates the effects of chunk-based exercises on English sentence structure by looking at second language learners’ proficiency. Oral sentence building (OSB), an aural-oral exercise where a learner needs to manipulate chunks and construct a sentence, was used. Five kinds of grammatical items were the focus of analysis. One hundred forty-two junior high school students conducted OSB 10 times for 10 days. The study indicates that OSB enhanced the sentence structures of both high and low proficiency learners. Above all, t-test showed a significant difference in the use of gerunds. One of the findings was that chunk-based learning would be more effective for beginners or intermediate learners.
